DOCTORAL STUDIES

6 full-time PhD (4 Vietnamese and 2 African) students are enrolled in PhD-Experimental Medicine program at the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen.

The PhD period is for 4 years. PhD students will undertake research rotations between African, Asian and German institutions.

MASTER'S MODULE

VG-CARE offers 4 Master students to complete their Master theses with scholarship for 5 months.

Master students can be from any university within the ASEAN region.

A platform with GCP/GCLP compliant project research module with international mentorship.

INTERNSHIPS

Tailored internships in Germany – Africa – Asia.

Each year 3 Asian and 1 African MDs/MSc/PhDs.

The Asian candidates will spend 3 months in Germany and 2 months at an African partner site, whereas the African candidates will spend 3 months in Germany and 2 months at an Asian partner site.

HANDS-ON TRAINING WORKSHOP ON SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

One workshop every year

Target group: front-line personnel from national referral centers and reference laboratories, targeting physicians, nurses and laboratory scientists, who will have to provide diagnostic services and clinical care to emerging infectious disease patients.

Topics: practical training on how to safely collect, package, label, ship, store and process clinical specimens, practical training on how to don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE), the diagnostic technologies for outbreak settings, and how to provide clinical care.

WORKSHOP ON EMERGING AND REMERGING INFECTIOUS DESEASES

One workshop every year.

Target group: research active personnel with post-graduate qualifications (MD, MSc, MPH, PhD), including physicians, veterinarians, entomologists, biomedical scientists and epidemiologists.

Topics: advanced knowledge and skills on various Emerging and Remerging Infectious Diseases occurring in the world.

DATA MANAGEMENT

Creation of a secured web-based data management platform.

Developing of the common data management procedures and protocols.

Standardized clinical and surveillance data.

Newly available web-based tools for data analysis.

Supporting rapid data sharing during disease outbreaks in collaboration with national and supranational partners such as MOH, regional WHO and local CDCs.

EXPERT SEMINARS ON GCP/GCLP

2 days seminar each alternative year (2022 – 2024).

Topics: Introduction to ICH-GCP, The Informed Consent, Ethics committee, Responsibilities of the Investigator, Responsibilities of the Sponsor, The Clinical Trial Protocol, The Investigator Brochure, Essential Documents in the context of ICH-GCP, Safety Reporting, Fraud and Misconduct.

EXPERT SEMINARS ON ETHICS AND REGULATORY CONCEPTS

2 days seminar each alternative year (2022 – 2024).

Topic: Build capacity for ethical and regulatory aspects of research in emergency situations with expertise. Each institution in the region nominates an ethics expert from their institution to be trained.

SHORT TERM EXPERT / MENTOR

An infectious diseases specialist shall strengthen the individual and institutional capacities with his experience and wisdom.

4 stays per year for 15 days in Vietnam.
